Mary Rohlich

Mary Rohlich is the Head of TV and Film for Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Purple Pebble Pictures.

She was a free agent for most of her career until Priyanka scooped her up and brought her in house. At the time of this recording, which it baffles me to say was at the end of 2020, she had just started in this new position.

She is a veteran film, television, and documentary film producer, and an Executive Producer on the acclaimed Netflix series Atypical. The show is in it’s 4th and final season.

She has produced numerous hit comedies (Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief) and award-winning documentary features (Gleason, Wrestle). Mary also enjoys serving as board chair for the non-profit film organization, Vidiots.

Mary’s formidable career and accomplishments are made even more impressive (if that’s even possible) by her prioritization of being a benevolent leader with integrity. Qualities that you’ve heard me yap about countless times on the show.

One of my personal takeaways was the reminder that there is no there there. There is no one path, for anything or anyone, especially in our business, so stay the course. Trust your own journey.

This week, Mary and I discuss:

  • Earning your seat at a table that actually aligns with your goals and values

  • The integration of family, into set life and work culture

  • The virtues of working with people you trust and admire

Can’t wait to hear what you think!

Thanks for doing this life thing with meeeee.

Beijos,

Caca

Show Quotes:

  • “I care a lot about the things that I work on, I'm very proud of the things that I work on. But more importantly, I really care about my relationships with people, and I care about doing a really good job and doing that as a good person.”

  • “I did what I think anybody should do if they don't know something. Go to somebody who knows something and ask them all the questions.”

  • “I do think the table keeps changing. But in my experience, as I realized what tables I want to sit at, if we're going to keep with this metaphor, the tables I'm choosing, I do feel like I have a place and I feel that there's a lot of trust there. You can feel that difference..”

  • “And that's been one of the hardest lessons is saying no to things and how much you can kind of gain from that.”
