Deniese Davis

Deniese Davis is a producer AND the COO/co-founder of ColorCreative, a production company she started with Issa Rae that focuses on underrepresented voices.

Deniese was born and raised in the blue-collar workforce of Las Vegas. She knew when she was 16-years-old that she wanted to be a producer. Since no real entertainment industry existed in Vegas, she enrolled in AFI’s Producing Program and packed her bags for Los Angeles.

After graduating, she earned her stripes working as a freelance line producer, working on MANY shoots with budgets under $100k. It is no small feat and speaks volumes about her work ethic and determination.

The stars aligned and she crossed paths with the equally hardworking and ambitious Issa Rae. Together, they brought The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl to life and it went on to become a huge hit on YouTube.

The show served as the blueprint for INSECURE on HBO, a hilarious comedy about female friendships and growing up. It’s one of the few shows I personally make the time to keep up with and love. It is now gearing up for its 4th season.

Hella inspiring!

During our chat, we discuss why it’s important to take time to re-calibrate and reset your soul, why she is sensitive about the producer title, and how she finessed her hustle.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this week’s episode!
