Sterling K. Brown
A Piece of Paradise with SKB
Sterling K. Brown is a three-time Emmy winner known for This Is Us, The People v. O.J. Simpson, and Paradise.
While the entertainment industry celebrates overnight success stories, Sterling's decade-plus journey reveals that sustainable careers are built on preparation, patience, and authentic relationships.
We met in 2021 on the set of Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul, written, directed, and produced by Adamma Ebo. The film stars Regina Hall and Sterling as a megachurch pastor and first lady attempting to rebuild their congregation following a major scandal. It marked Sterling's first time stepping into the Executive Producer role. Shooting an indie in Atlanta is not for the faint of heart, but it was also one of the most fun experiences because of how much he and Regina were down to play.
Perfect timing brought us together as we head into the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, where Sterling is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series for Paradise. It was delightful to see him get so giddy sharing the story of his first Emmy win in 2016 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, The People v. O.J. Simpson.
We dive into his advocacy for keeping productions in Los Angeles, his work championing marginalized stories through Indian Meadows Productions, and the art of the "tease."
